St James The Great

The fine Victorian church of St James The Great was consecrated on 15th October 1846 by the Bishop of Durham.  Built by Thomas King, a local builder, this grade 11* listed building is centrally positioned in the town.  The magnificent entrance screen from which St James is accessed on Newgate Street is also listed as 11*.

The church is accessible throughout, often hosting community services for the town, including that for the famous Morpeth Gathering and also civic events.
